One thing I truly loved was my gramma's favorite book, the Trail of the lonesome pine. Not many luxuries, but what they had was loved and cared for.(I have much of it today). A fine, moving dramatization of John Fox Jr.s novel about feuding families in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. We were from Seattle, and that city was SO much different! My grandparents lived off the farm, doing trading and working for necessary things. Breaks Interstate Park, for example, is nestled in the Cumberland Mountain Overthrust Block, along the Kentucky/Virginia state border. In addition to being destinations themselves, these venues are excellent for visitors in transit to West Virginia or Kentucky. The majority of sites are located within the valleys or surrounding mountains, with some sites, such as Cranes Nest River Trail, offering views from berms overlooking the river.

Many of the sites on this loop are situated directly on the Pound River or along one of the waterways that join the Pound River. We will be live-streaming some of the events including the parade and wreath laying ceremony. The Pound River decorates this region made famous by John Fox, Jr., in his 1908 novel “Trail of the Lonesome Pine” that mentions several of the places in this area of Virginia. The Trail of the Lonesome Pine will be attending the Yorktown Day and Weekend Celebration on October 19th 2021 in historic Yorktown Virginia.
